Saturated ground conditions, two days of rainfall, and rising stream levels and flows have prompted the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority to issue a Flood Outlook late this afternoon.

“Ground conditions are saturated causing direct runoff to watercourses and slippery conditions on stream banks and shorelines,” said NBMCA Duty Officer Katelyn Lynch in a release.

The Conservation Authority says the weather system that crossed the province over the weekend continues today.

The North Bay-Mattawa area is forecast to receive an additional 30 to 35 mm of precipitation today on top of the 25 to 40 mm of precipitation received on Sunday.

Stream levels and flows have risen due to the rainfall received Sunday that continues today.

Ground conditions are saturated, causing direct runoff from the continuing rainfall as well as slippery conditions on banks of watercourses.

All residents, especially those in low lying areas, are encouraged to monitor the conditions that are developing.

Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from area waterways.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry also says they are closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions.
