Emma Dupuis is being rewarded for her school studies, community engagement and leadership skills.
The Grade 12 FJ McElligott student has been awarded the Queen’s University Chancellor’s Scholarship, a major admissions honour worth $36,000.
It’s given to students who demonstrate superior academics, creative and original thinking, involvement in school or community activities and exemplify leadership skills. There are only 50 awards given out each year.
In order to be considered for a Chancellor’s Scholarship, the applicant must be a full-time student with an average of above 90 per cent. The award, renewable for three subsequent years, requires a GPA of at least 3.5.
Throughout her four years at FJ McElligott, Dupuis's strong work ethic has been demonstrated in honour roll awards and this year has achieved a 97 per cent average, states a school media release.
“Emma’s application for this award included three essays demonstrating her leadership, involvement in the school and volunteerism,” it states. “In addition to her strong commitment to academics, Emma also participates in many sports at FJ McElligott including badminton, volleyball and the basketball team where she was captain.”
Dupuis’s involvement in the community began with the food bank when she was five years old and has continued ever since.
“She is passionate about charities and enjoys educating other students about their ability to give back,” it reads. “Emma has also been involved with her school's Voyageur Volunteers program and other charities including Breast Cancer, Cystic Fibrosis, Me to We, as well as a trip to the Dominican Republic to participate in building a school.”
