Five month drug investigation leads to multiple arrests and 'significant' seizures

A five-month investigation had the objective of targeting individuals responsible for trafficking controlled substances into the community

A joint police drug trafficking effort that lasted five months resulted in seven local men charged with 64 offences.

All those charged live in West Nipissing and the surrounding area.

The OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau and North Bay Police began Project INTREPID, with the objective of targeting drug dealers responsible for trafficking controlled substances into the community.

Police say the intelligence-led investigation gleaned evidence that the dealers trafficked significant volumes of controlled substances, including cocaine, methamphetamine, methamphetamine tablets, and fentanyl throughout West Nipissing and the surrounding area.

On March 13, police executed four warrants in the West Nipissing area.

During the course of the investigation, the joint team combined to seize the following suspected drugs:

  • 3.3 kg of crystal methamphetamine
  • 2,065 methamphetamine tablets
  • 58 grams of fentanyl
  • two Percocet pills
  • 23 hydromorphone pills

Warrants led to the seizure of electronics including 12 cellphones, $5,300 in cash, ammunition and two vehicles.

Charges are Chad Rowe,  46, (21 charges) Riley Lawrence,  27, (17 charges) Justin Glynn, 30, (14 charges) Roger Major,  47 (2 charges) James Cousineau, 59, (2 charges) and Maxime Emond,  34, (4 charges) all of West Nipissing.

Several of the accused were held in custody upon arrest and are expected to appear at an Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay in the coming months. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected to be laid.
