Anglers are pretty good about getting their huts off Lake Nipissing by the March 31 deadline.
But there are irresponsible people out there that leave their huts and garbage for others to pick up.

Near North Crime Stoppers and Conservation Officers with the MNRF are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the owner of an abandoned ice fishing hut.
On April 20, Conservation Officers found an abandoned ice fishing hut left on the ice of Lake Nipissing at Amelia Beach. The ice hut is not registered with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
Owners have to display a registration number on the outside of the ice hut at least 2.5 inches high (6.3 cm) so MNRF officers can identify the owner should the hut not be removed in time.
Anglers who don’t remove their huts by the deadline could face a maximum fine of $200.
Ice hut owners are also responsible for taking their garbage and debris with them so it doesn't end up on area beaches when the ice melts.
Anyone with information about the ownership of this ice hut, is asked to contact Near North Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477) or submit the tip online at www.nearnorthcrimestoppers.com
