North Bay firefighters collected 3,324 lbs of food and $4,080 last Wednesday and Thursday at the annual ‘Fill a Fire Truck” event at Parker’s Your Independent Grocer and Sobeys Algonquin.
“The generosity of our community is tremendous and North Bay Fire & Emergency Services looks forward each year to this annual event to help such a worthwhile cause while promoting Fire Prevention Week,” said Fire Prevention Officer Chris Nichol.
This year’s theme is “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention.”
"It ties in perfectly with the Food Bank as we remind everyone to stay alert when cooking as cooking continues to be the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries in Ontario," added Nichol. "Unattended cooking is the leading cause of cooking fires and deaths."
