Ferris Fun Day a success, other events planned

This event was but one of many events to highlight retailers in Ferris

Organizers are pleased with the way the initial Ferris Fund Day turned out, plans are in the works for other events to help promote the south end of the city.

One of the organizers, Mike Gelinas, was particularly pleased with the "Breakfast with Vitali and Guy" held at Terry's Place restaurant.

This was one of many events organized by the Ferris Business Network as part of the Ferris Fun Day that was held on July 15 and co-sponsored by the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of North Bay.

A total of $2,392 was raised by retailers throughout the Ferris area to assist the group.

"The Breakfast with Vitali Yashmenev and Guy Blanchard was great as many people felt the intimacy of the restaurant gave them a chance to interact with the hockey guests," Gelinas told BayToday. "This was not merely a chance to get autographs but a chance to speak one-on-one with hockey pros."

Yashmenev's former landlady, Joyce Saunders, dropped in and spoke at length about the days gone by, and the Centennials.

According to Blanchard, "one person came in with an unopened Vitali hockey card and got it signed." In fact, three of the North Bay U18 AAA Trappers were having breakfast when their coaches walked in.

"The breakfast was great and it was nice to see people dropping in to say hi," Guy stated.

This event was but one of many events to highlight retailers in Ferris.

Hot dogs were being sold for a buck each, Long & McQuade has numerous musical instruments set up outside that the public could try, food tastings, an inflatable bouncy toy and martial arts were on display.

There was even a space set aside where you could try pulling a truck by rope.

"Stay tuned for more events from this group, including an outdoor movie to be held at Omischl park in September," promised Gelinas.
