Wayne Simpson hates to lose.
But the Port Perry man didn't have to worry about that this weekend, winning the Fastest Sled on Ice competition.
Simpson hit 165.8 mph on his low-to-the-ground Polaris snow machine and may end up entering the Guinness Book of World Records.
Nicky Levasseur, who with husband Claude, organized the event, said Guinness has told her to hold off sending in Simpson's results since there are two more snowmobile races coming up over the next month. Once those are complete, and if Simpson's speed is still fastest, then he's in.
Simpson had set the record on the first of two attempts with a speed of 164.3 mph.
But he surpassed that mark on his second try despite having problems with his machine during the two-day event.
Sylvie Campbell, of Barrie, had the second fastest time at 162.3 mph, and Tommy McConkie, of Coldwater, was third fastest, at 162.2 mph.
"Well I'm still the fastest chick around," a disappointed Campbell said.
