Fading paint on local roads getting spruced up

Fear not, those faded line markings are getting a fresh coat

Fear not, local and visiting drivers and pedestrians. Those faded lines on our roadways are getting a fresh coat today into Friday.

The City says the painting of traffic lines is underway and is scheduled for completion by early Friday.

Much of the road painting work for North Bay is contracted out. Road paint regulations have undergone an environmental overhaul in recent years. Paint barely lasts one year as municipalities are now forced to use water-based paint as opposed to oil-based paint, which lasted longer.

According to the Official MTO Driver's Handbook, pavement markings combine with road signs and traffic lights to give you important information about the direction of traffic and where you may and may not travel. Pavement markings divide traffic lanes, show turning lanes, mark pedestrian crossings, indicate obstacles and tell you when it is not safe to pass.
