It is going to get extremely cold says Environment Canada.

Bundle up! Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for:

  • North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa
  • West Nipissing - French River
  • Greater Sudbury and vicinity
  • Témiscaming area
  • Temiskaming Shores - Temagami
  • Kirkland Lake - Englehart
  • South River - Burk's Falls
  • Bayfield Inlet - Dunchurch
  • Huntsville - Baysville
  • Bracebridge - Gravenhurst
  • Port Carling - Port Severn
  • Town of Parry Sound - Rosseau - Killbear Park

Extreme cold will return tonight.

Expect minimum temperatures in the minus thirties and wind chill values near minus 40 tonight for portions of the area, particularly near the Quebec border.  Risk of frostbite in minutes.

Wind chill minus 40 Friday morning and minus 13 in the afternoon.

Temperatures and wind chills will moderate by Friday afternoon.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
