Expose your toes! It's National Flip Flop Day

Expose the toes!

Who knew Nation Flip Flop day even existed.

It does, and it's today. On the third Friday in June, National Flip Flop Day celebrates the ubiquitous footwear.

Time to free your toes from the confines of shoes and just in time as temperatures are soaring in North Bay. Expect sunny skies and 30 degrees today. There is even a heat warning for Temagami. Sunday is the first day of summer.

The heatwave is expected to last over the weekend.

Flip flops have been around for thousands of years, but a day recognizing them is relatively new.

In 2007  a company called Tropical Smoothie Cafe had the idea of National Flip Flop Day to help celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Customers who come into the restaurant wearing flip-flops receive a free smoothie. Tropical Smoothie then gives proceeds of a $1 paper flip flop from customers to Camp Sunshine which caters to sick children.

Flip-flops got their name because of the slapping sound they make against the ground when you walk in them!

Be careful though, flip-flops don't provide much support and can lead to sore and injured feet!

Our favourite flip flop song, Jimmy Buffett: Margaritaville
