Emergency Services tickled pink to raise Run for the Cure funds

'I’m very proud of our police team for making it to the top spot and equally pleased that, as a group of emergency services, we collectively have raised so much money to support the fight against breast cancer. I don’t want Fire, EMS, and MTO to be discouraged though, I think pink really is their colour'

North Bay and area emergency services teamed up to raise over $5,100 for CIBC’s Run for the Cure.

On Friday, the North Bay Police Service and its partner emergency services in the area announced they had collectively raised $5,146 for CIBC Run for the Cure.

Every year, area emergency services take part in a fundraising challenge in support of CIBC’s Run for the Cure. To raise the stakes and help bring in more money for a good cause, the services agreed the leadership of the services that did not raise the most funds would have their nails painted pink.

This year, the fundraising competition raised a total of $5,146 This year’s participants as well as their fundraising totals are listed below:

  • North Bay Police Service - $2,611
  • North Bay Fire and Emergency Services - $1,417
  • MTO Transportation Safety Division - $868.40
  • Nipissing District Paramedic Services - $250

“This is my first experience with this competition here in North Bay, " says North Bay Police Chief Daryl Longworth. "I’m very proud of our police team for making it to the top spot and equally pleased that, as a group of emergency services, we collectively have raised so much money to support the fight against breast cancer. I don’t want Fire, EMS, and MTO to be discouraged though, I think pink really is their colour."

“All kidding aside though," the police chief continued, "this competition is a testament to what we as emergency services and as a community can achieve when we work together. I do want to highlight and recognize all of our policing team members, along with the North Bay Police Association and the North Bay Police Service Senior Officers Association for volunteering their time, energy and money to raise funds for this important cause.”

“I would like to thank all the emergency services and their members for participating in another successful fundraising competition,” said Melanie Gainforth, Volunteer Director for North Bay CIBC Run for the Cure. “Their donations will help fund breast cancer research, provide supports to those affected, and shape health policies to better prevent breast cancer.

"Breast cancer is a disease that will touch everyone. One-in-eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. While our ability to treat breast cancer has improved, we still have a long way to go. I’m very glad we can count on our area emergency services to take part in this fun event every year for this important cause.”
