North Bay and regional politicians patched up their differences to stand united against the pending loss of 35 provincial jobs from the city, with only 29 brought in in return.
An emergency meeting of North Bay city council was held Monday night to discuss the matter, with Nipissing MPP Monique Smith in attendance.
As well the mayors of Callander, East Ferris, Bonfield, Nipissing Twp. Mattawa, West Nipissing and Chisholm were invited to attend too.
The council chamber was packed with local members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, a number of whom spoke passionately against the move of the 35 jobs to five other cities across Ontario: Peterborough, Sudbury, Orillia, Thunder Bay and the Greater Toronto Area.
