East Ferris is commemorating Remembrance Day with a small ceremony this Thursday at the cenotaph in Memorial Park.
And although a smaller event, the public is very welcome to come out to pay their respects.
“The public is certainly invited,” Mayor Pauline Rochefort emphasized.
“The Memorial Park gardeners have done a beautiful job of setting up crosses at the cenotaph,” she added, complete with “nice flower arrangements” to enhance the ceremony.
At 1:30, there will be a “a short commemoration” with members of the Legion in attendance.
Last year’s Remembrance Day ceremony was cancelled, and Mayor Rochefort is glad the municipality can host an event this year.
She also mentioned that judging from the community’s support for the Legion’s poppy campaign, many others have been looking forward to the ceremony.
“I was very delighted this year as the sales of poppies was very active,” throughout the community, she added.
Mayor Rochefort is also anticipating next year’s service, as 2022 marks the tenth anniversary of the municipality’s cenotaph.
For those unable to attend the afternoon ceremony, “obviously the cenotaph is open,” Mayor Rochefort said.
“This is our community cenotaph,” she emphasized, “so please come and pay your respect to those who have served our country, our region and our community at any time of the day that is convenient for you and your family.”
