Did bald tires cause an accident?

Driver was charged with having improper tires

On February 7, at 11 a.m., Nipissing West OPP responded to a vehicle rollover on Highway 69, in French River.

No one was injured, but upon inspection of the vehicle, the tires had extensive wear.

As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old from Toronto, is charged with:

  • Improper tires
  • Careless driving

The motorist was issued two provincial offences notices with set fines.

It's the second time in a week that regional OPP have laid the tire charge.

On Feb. 2 Kirkland Lake OPP reported that a North Bay man and woman face numerous drug charges after a single-vehicle accident on Highway 112.

One of the charges was for improper tires

The OPP reminds motorists to slow down and install proper winter tires. Winter tires have a symbol of a peaked mountain with a snowflake. These tires can handle snowy slippery roads at lower temperatures and improve both traction control and reducing stopping distances.
