NORTH BAY, Ont. — One day is in the books at the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling Boost National 2022 at Memorial Gardens.
Each of the 32 teams —16 men's and 16 women's have played one game.
Half of the teams will advance to the quarter-finals by week's end.
Tuesday's draws saw some big names in action. Rachel Homan, now with defending champion Tracy Fleury as part of her quartet, fell 9-3 to Satsuki Fujisawa. Jennifer Jones, who captured the women's Worlds here in 2018 won her opener 7-4 over Krista McCarville. Kerri Einarson, the reigning Scotties champion, defeated Eunjung Kim 10-1. And, Anna Hasselborg fell 5-3 to Tabitha Peterson.
Other women's results include Chelsea Carey losing 9-2 to Silvana Tironzoni; Kaitlyn Lawes, previously part of the Jennifer Jones team, was defeated 8-5 by Team Kaiser; Daniela Jentsch won by a 6-2 count over Eun Ji Gim; and, Isabella Wrana was victorious by a 9-4 count over Hollie Duncan.

On the men's side, Olympic bronze medallist Brad Gushue edged Glenn Howard 7-6; Brendan Bottcher won 5-4 over Mike McEwen; in a rematch of the Beijing Olympic final, Niklas Edin defeated Bruce Mouat 4-1; defending champion Matt Dunstone won in an extra end 5-4 over Ross Whyte; and, Kevin Koe was a 6-5 winner over Marco Hosli.
In other Day 1 results, Colton Flasch defeated Joel Retornaz 7-4, Michael Brunner over Korey Dropkin 7-3, and Reid Carruthers topped Team Schwaller 6-5.
There are four more draws on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., noon, 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Feature matches include Brad Gushue against Kevin Koe at 8:30 a.m., Kerri Einarson vs Jennifer Jones at noon, team Schwaller meets Mouat at 4 p.m., and Chelsea Carey faces Anna Hasselborg at 8 p.m.
