The days may be shorter but the winter sunsets seen off Lake Nipissing can be breathtaking.
Michael Burns captured an amazing Lake Nipissing sunset on January 9, when his 7-year-old son Jaxson Thomas Burns was playing ice hockey on Lake Nipissing behind an icy lake landscape.
"I made a little rink in our backyard off Gorman Street on Lake Nipissing and my son was out skating and the sun was setting when I captured the image," said Burns.
Burns immediately realized he captured something special and sent it to his Mom.
"My Mom runs the LCBO and she shared it with an employee who told her to tell me to send it to BayToday," said Burns, and she encouraged him to share it.

Lake Nipissing has been home to hundreds of pond hockey games over the years. The fifth-largest lake in Ontario also hosted a giant Monster Pond Hockey Tournament in the late 2000s.
Even a current NHLer Wyatt Johnston, whose dad grew up in North Bay, used Lake Nipissing as his ice hockey rink during the COVID-19 pandemic.
