The Cranberry Day tradition continues in Callander this Saturday September 28th.
Everyone is invited to get outdoors and enjoy the natural environment while walking the Cranberry Trails.
There will be plenty for people to do, see, hear and taste between at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
“Just like in previous years we will have horse drawn wagon rides with Village Clydesdales, we will have vendors, and live music at the parking area and along the trail,” said Catharina Nordbeck who is responsible for events and marketing with the Municipalilty of Callander.
“We will also have cranberry picking of course. If you are going to do some picking, it is a good idea to bring boots. We will also have cranberry tasting, and some treats available. Community groups will be there offering crafts and activities for kids as well.”
New this year is a shuttle service.
Two buses will start rolling out from the community centre every half hour starting at 10:30.
Nordbeck says there will be limited parking at the entrance to the trails, so she encourages people to use the service.
Pets on a leash are welcome on the bus.
“The amount of traffic and logistics, parking and so forth is always a challenge for this event. So, we have decided to offer a shuttle service between the community centre and the start of the trail this year.”
If history repeats, organizers are expecting a large turnout.
“We had close to one thousand people in the past two years attending the event. It is a great family-oriented day. There is lots of opportunities to go for a stroll and enjoy this beautiful trail. It is a nice time of the year as well and hopefully the cranberries will be in perfect shape, ready to be picked,” said Nordbeck.
“There will be information booths and there will be people talking about the area and also we’ll have some buskers along the trail.”
Prior to the event, St. Peter’s Anglican Church is holding a cranberry pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.
The cost is $8, children 10 and under pay $5.
