The annual Mining Health and Safety Conference in Sudbury will bring together Ontario’s mining industry to share knowledge and innovations regarding safety programs and hazards specific to mining.
“We’re pleased to welcome miners from across the province to this year’s conference, themed innovations in mining safety,” says Candys Ballanger-Michaud, WSN President. “In the last decade we’ve seen an increase in innovations aimed at improving safety in Ontario mines and this event is aimed at celebrating these advancements.
“Mining is a vital and technically demanding industry,” notes Ballanger-Michaud. “WSN has 24 mining health and safety specialists and mine rescue officers who provide specialized services and training across Ontario, including expertise in mine ventilation, ground control, electrical-mechanical safety, as well as rescue and recovery operations. WSN also helps mining companies assess health and safety risks and meet legislative requirements.”
New for 2017 will be live video streaming of keynote presentations.
Conference keynote speakers feature Jody Urquhart, a motivational speaker and former stand-up comedian with a humorous talk on facing the future and navigating change in the workplace, Alistair Ross, a mining industry expert who will discuss the role of leadership in achieving zero harm, and Dr. Michel Larivière who focuses on research regarding mental health in mining.
