Allan MacAskill is known to North Bay audiences for years of plays in a variety of roles and stars in the Gateway Theatre Guild's production of "Lunenburg" by Canadian playwright Norm Foster.
The play revolves around the complexities of relationships, love, and the impact of past choices. The story focuses on a group of lifelong friends who reunite in the picturesque town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. As they gather, they confront the challenges of their current lives, including unfulfilled dreams, personal conflicts, and romantic entanglements.
The main characters include a married couple and a younger woman who brings a fresh perspective to old dynamics.
"The dialogue is filled with humour and poignancy, exploring the deep connections and underlying tensions among the friends. Throughout the play, the characters reflect on their pasts, revealing secrets and sorrows, and ultimately striving for understanding and resolution. Lunenburg is a Canadian favourite that highlights the themes of nostalgia, the passage of time, and the enduring nature of friendship as the characters navigate their shared history and look toward the future," says a news release.
"Overall, the play captures the warmth and complexity of human relationships, inviting audiences to consider their own connections and the choices that shape their lives."
Kelly Martin brings the role of Iris to life and comes to this production with years of experience on stage and in local TV productions. Lisa Boivin rounds out this ensemble. The beautiful set design by Craig Coupal shines with local touches and period authenticity on stage.
