COBALT - The Cobalt Mining Museum is welcoming people to come for a visit on Fridays through Sundays over the winter.

Curator Mac Armstrong has been working at the museum since September and has already organized a Cobalt Ghost Walk, in partnership with the Bunker Military Museum.

Next in consideration for a possible activity (also in partnership with the Bunker Military Museum) is a trivia-based event that would challenge couples to separate fact from fiction in small stories while they toured the two museums.

Armstrong says the Cobalt Ghost Walk was successful, and included visits to the Fraser Hotel (location of the Bunker Military Museum, the Right of Way head frame, and others.

Armstrong brings with him 10 years of experience as an archaeologist, and the recent completion of a diploma program at Fleming College as well as an internship.

He said he took the position at the Cobalt Mining Museum because "it was an amazing opportunity. It was a small museum with a lot of potential. Already it has an amazing set-up and provides an amazing amount of information. It's very well organized, and very well done, but it also has the potential for providing so much more. I have always liked working in small community museums."

Originating from Hamilton, this is the first time he has been this far north, he said.

"I've always enjoyed being in the outdoors. I've always enjoyed camping," he said. For that reason, "this was a great opportunity to experience that."
