Cogeco outage caused by vandalism

'We have confirmed the cause; a vandal cut our fibre optic cable.'

That big Cogeco outage today that left many customers without internet, cable TV and phone service was a criminal act, a company spokeswoman tells BayToday.

"As you know, Cogeco customers experienced an outage today in North Bay," confirmed Ontario Public Relations Manager Kristen Curry,  "I saw your article and wanted to let you know that we have confirmed the cause; a vandal cut our fibre optic cable."

The vandalism occurred in North Bay and affected customers in North Bay, Callander, and Corbeil.

Services were back up and running for a majority of customers by 3 p.m.  Service was cut early this morning.

"For others, our local teams are working to repair the damaged fibre as quickly as possible. We hope to get service back for them by 5:30 p.m." she explained.
