City's worst intersection being repaired

Traffic is being backed up, so give yourself an extra few minutes.

If you have to travel past the Lakeshore Drive - Pinewood Park intersection you know why the city fields so many complaints about it.

Lots of traffic going to and from Callander, plus the heavy transports that routinely cross it, means a punishing life and plenty of potholes. Cars can often be seen swerving to avoid the worst of them.

But starting today it's out with the old asphalt and in with the new as the "shave and pave" project gets underway. Also included is a portion of Pinewood Park drive itself.

Traffic is being backed up, so give yourself an extra few minutes if you have to use that route, especially off Lakeshore as the on-ramp has been closed.

Councillor Tanya Vrebosch says, "There will be 100 mm new asphalt to go back on after the tack coat. Total cost estimate for intersection only is about $90k."

She added that milling started yesterday and work on touch ups and a re-pave will take a couple of days.

The city is spending $4.5 million on road repairs this summer, a record amount.

Repairs are a little behind schedule but are expected to be finished by the end of October.
