The City of North Bay has taken the next step toward developing a new twin ice pad community and recreation centre.
A request for proposals (RFP) has been issued seeking qualified and experienced architectural and engineering firms for the completion of the architectural and engineering design and layout of the new facility, which will be integrated with the existing Steve Omischl Sports Complex at 1055 Lakeshore Drive.
The work will include architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, sustainability/energy, civil, landscape architectural and costing work. The deadline is Aug. 7.
“The new Community Centre and twin-pad arena in West Ferris will improve access to sport and recreation opportunities for the citizens of North Bay, and add to the already wonderful quality of life we enjoy in our great City,” said Coun. Johanne Brousseau, Chair of Council's Community Services Committee.
A contract for the architectural and engineering services is expected to be awarded in September.
The design phase of the project will involve public open houses and council updates. It will also provide cost estimates for the facility which will be further refined and reviewed with Council as the process moves forward.
Construction of the new community and recreation centre is anticipated to get underway by the fall of 2020.
