With the ice and snow slowly melting away, it is once again revealing an annual challenge for area motorists. That is the dreaded pothole!

Gord Young, communications officer with the City of North Bay, says winter has led to a busy road maintenance season for city crews.

"With more snow comes challenges, like snow storage and taller snowbanks, but our crews have been working efficiently to prioritize snow removal where it's needed most," Young explained in an email to BayToday

"At the same time, as is typical for this time of year, the freeze/thaw cycle is causing potholes to form across the city.

"Crews are out daily patching them, but due to fluctuating temperatures, these early repairs are temporary. More permanent fixes using hot mix asphalt will be completed as soon as conditions improve."

Young says the City will continue its annual asphalt road resurfacing program this year, investing approximately $3.55 million into improving roads based on conditions and traffic volume.

"We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through these seasonal challenges to keep our roads safe and in good condition," said Young.

Residents can report potholes by calling Public Works at 705-474-4340.
