New York has the Manhattan, Louisville has the Mint Julep and North Bay now has the Cheeky Chirico, a martini made with vodka, peach schnapps and a slice of peach

Deputy mayor Peter Chirico was on hand at the Capitol Centre Wednesday for the debut of the eponymous elixir, which will become a staple at the building’s new martini bar.

The Martini Lounge was created as a revenue-generating facility, Capitol Centre general manager Dee Adrian said, and was designed to be a “trendy and continental” space that replicates an outdoor Parisian café, “with its ambience, lighting, tables and chairs.

Adrian said a special martini, such as a chocolate martini or an iceberg martini, will be served each evening to complement each performance at the centre

But the big drink so far is the Cheeky Chirico, although there’s no suggestion it was concocted to persuade the budget chief to loosen the purse strings on city funding for the Capitol Centre.

Chirico, tongue firmly in cheek, said he was “quite proud” of the accomplishment.

“If anything else in council over the years, at least I can say I have a martini named after me,” Chirico said.

When asked if there was any reason he could think of why his martini would be considered ‘cheeky,’ Chirico laughingly said he wanted to defer the issue “back to committee.”

Capitol Centre spokeswoman Lee Kools said the adjective refers to how “adorable” Chirico is.

“Look at the smile,” she said.

“I know we’re going to budget soon so I have to be good.”
