Chippewa Secondary School has announced it has adopted a new nickname.
They are now the Chippewa Ravens.
The new school team name was revealed during a Terry Fox Pep Rally at the school on Thursday.
Back in early 2024, The Near North Board asked Principal Krista Tucker Petrick to form a committee to rebrand Chippewa.

Chippewa has been without an official team name and mascot for several years as the "Raiders" nickname was phased out.
"The Chippewa Rebranding Committee was comprised of 16 students, four staff, the Parent Council Chair and Principal Tucker Petrick, who have all given of their time and their voices to ensure an appropriate team name was able to be voted on," Chippewa stated via social media Thursday.
"The Chippewa student body was provided an opportunity to suggest names in the spring and the Rebranding Committee worked to select 7 possible team names to be put forward for consultation."
Chippewa officials say the potential names were shared with several community partners for consultation.
"Five names were returned to the committee as being appropriate to go forward and this fall Chippewa students and staff had an opportunity to vote. The first round of voting took five names down to two. Those two names went head-to-head in a vote that was held from September 17 to 19. The winner of that vote was revealed at the Terry Fox Run/Pep Rally held Thursday."
Chippewa did not share the other nicknames that were considered.
"Today we are announcing that one name," exclaimed Principal Tucker Petrick during the Pep Rally.
"We acknowledge the thousands alumni who will always be Chippewa Raiders, and ask that you help us usher in this new era for our current and future students. Just like you, we will be scarlet and gold forever as we continue to take every opportunity to 'Carpe Diem.'
"Chippewa is proud to now be the home of the Ravens."

The name of the school itself and the nickname have been under scrutiny for over a year.
