The City of North Bay officially launched its Centennial Year with a special flag-raising ceremony, marking 2025 as the 100th anniversary of its incorporation.
“It’s incredible to think that on April 14, 1925, North Bay officially became a city with a population of just over 12,000,” said Mayor Peter Chirico. “Later that summer, in August, our City charter was formally presented — a pivotal moment that set the stage for the North Bay we know and love today.”

Through its Centennial Events Hosting Fund, the City has partnered with 25 community groups, each incorporating a Centennial theme into their events. These partnerships highlight the spirit of the celebrations, which is to involve the entire community.

From spring through summer, residents and visitors can look forward to a wide variety of inclusive and accessible events. Highlights include concerts, drone shows, and enhancements to existing events like Canada Day celebrations, the Santa Claus Parade, and March break activities.
The Centennial logo, designed by Canadore College graphic design student Maryon McCann, is already being showcased across the City — from Battalion jerseys to Twiggs cookies — and more creative uses are anticipated throughout the year.
Centennial banners are now displayed downtown to commemorate this milestone further, with additional artwork banners installed along the Lakeshore overpass.

In addition to the events, the Centennial Year will feature legacy projects led by both the City and the community. The City has allocated funding to support community-led initiatives, with applications currently under review.
“As we raise the Centennial flag today, we celebrate our shared history, our achievements, and the strong sense of community that continues to define North Bay,” said Mayor Chirico. “We encourage everyone to visit northbay.ca/100 to stay informed about the exciting events, legacy projects, and commemorative items planned for this special year.”
