Ceasefire NOW Nipissing is demanding Nipissing—Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota make a clear statement about his position on the Israel-Gaza war.
The group is planning an upcoming rally to ramp up pressure on Rota and call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and an "end to the genocide of Palestinians."
On Monday, January 8 from 4-5:30 p.m. they will line the sidewalks of the overpass bridge connecting Main Street East and Lakeshore Drive.
"We invite the community to bring your signs, flags, neighbours, friends and family," says a release.
The group claims Liberal MPs are publicly split over Canada calling for a "sustainable ceasefire" in Gaza.
"Where does MP Anthony Rota stand?" asks the group in a news release.
"Nipissing—Timiskaming constituents are still waiting to find out. MP Rota remains silent about the ongoing genocide of Palestinians and ethnic cleansing of Gaza. Despite THREE public rallies in his riding (two of them in front of his office), and numerous requests by his constituents for a public statement, MP Rota has yet to make any public comment about the call for a permanent ceasefire, or publicly acknowledge anything in connection to Gaza, Palestine or Israel."
"As our MP he needs to tell us where he stands on this situation in Gaza. So far, he's been totally silent," said Labour Council President Henri Giroux.
BayToday reached out to Rota for a comment but got no response.
