The Renfrew Wolves (CCHL) notched the night’s first four goals and never trailed in defeating the Powassan Voodoos 6-1 at the Valley Cottage Cup Friday at Ma-Te-Way Activity Centre in Renfrew.
The Wolves were quick to strike as they grabbed a 2-0 lead before the contest was three minutes old.
Grant Ermerlini and Bryan Gund where the Renfrew scorers as they carried their early cushion to the first intermission.
Second period play saw the host extend their lead with an early power play effort, put in by Joey Kennelly.
Special teams saw Kennelly add another at 9:11, as he struck shorthanded, to extend the Wolves cushion.
Powassan got one back two minutes later of the stick of Cameron Lemcke, with help from Rhys Smetham to make it 4-1 after 40 minutes.
In the final frame, the CCHL squad put the game away on markers from Tyson Phare and Kennelly’s third of the night and second on the man advantage to secure the home ice decision.
Kannon Flageolle and Isaac Wilson split goaltending duties for Powassan in the setback in an outing that saw the Wolves credited with 51 shots on target.
The Voodoos are back at it Saturday afternoon, as they take on the Carleton Place Canadians (CCHL) in a 1:30 p.m. start in Renfrew.
