The Capitol Centre has released their 2022 winter lineup, which outlines shows from January until June, and with 16 attractions, there are performances for all tastes.

From ballet to Big Wreck, to Just For Laughs to the Canadian Jazz All-Stars, the list of talent is wide and varied, designed to bring back the crowds yearning for some top-notch live entertainment.

As with all performing arts venues, it has been a rough year and a half for the Capital Centre. Covid closed the theatre, imposed limits on attendance once reopened, and made a deep cut into the organization’s bottom line.

But days are brightening. The seating restrictions have been lifted, and the theatre is once again allowed to fill to capacity.

Of course, masks and proof of vaccination still applies, but these regulations are much more welcome than doors closed to the public.

As for filling the house to capacity, “it’s been almost two years since we’ve been able to do that,” explained Dan Misturada, “and we’re grateful for the opportunity.”

Misturada is the programming director for the Capital Centre. He’s been busy booking the winter lineup, no easy task given the uncertainties surrounding Covid-19 health regulations.

But all is going well, he said, and he and the entire staff are thrilled to bring back some shows for the people.

“People need that gathering space,” he acknowledges, and he is pleased the Centre provides that for so many within the community.

“Theatre and art and music tend to really do a lot for the soul,” Misturada testified, “and the shows we have coming reach out to as many people as we possibly can.”

“We’ve packed 16 shows into half a year,” he added, noting that usually that could be an entire year-long season.

“We have some amazing acts coming through,” he said, “and the show that’s kicking off the second half, Piaf, is an entirely French production,” made extra special as the show is travelling from France to put it on.

“It’s the first time we’re bringing back international artists,” Misturada explained, since Covid arrived.

“This is a big step for us and the industry in general.”

Although just revealed, the scheduled lineup is attracting fans, with pre-sales going strong.

“Some of the shows are already selling really well,” Misturada said. “Johnny Reid’s already sold over 200 tickets, which is amazing, and I’m really encouraged that people are willing and eager to come back.”

Tickets are currently available to Capitol Center members, but sales open to the public Monday, November 29 at 12:00. For more information, to view the full lineup, and to purchase tickets, visit the Capitol Centre’s website.
