Mail delivery to northern Ontario has been halted, says Canada Post, due to significant snowfall.
Canada Post issued a red delivery service alert for northern Ontario this afternoon.
"The safety of our employees is our number one priority," says a news release from the corporation. "A red service alert means that we are suspending delivery for the day and not sending out our delivery agents or recalling them. Delivery will resume once conditions improve and it’s safe to do so.
"We encourage customers to clear the ice from their walkways, stairs, and driveways, to ensure safe access to the front door for both their visitors, as well as their mail carriers, when service resumes."
Northwestern Ontario has been hit hard by wintery weather but there are no weather alerts in northeastern Ontario although there is a chance of rain showers or flurries over the weekend.
