Callanders 2015 Fun Fest and Canada Day celebrations started off with The Fire Fighters Pancake Breakfast feeding the festival goers and parade participants.

Volunteer fire fighter Chris Sampson says the fire fighters play a big part in the celebrations to show they are not only emergency responders. “The parade is a good opportunity to raise awareness for fire safety and fire education.”

The main attraction on sunny Saturday was the Callander Canada Day Parade.

People lined both sides of the street. Children received treats from parade participants and freezies from Callander Fire Fighters.

Mayor Hec Lavigne says Funfest Weekend is a strong tradition in Callander.

“Everybody puts their heart into it. It is always fun to look forward to. Now we have the Light Up Callander Parade.”

Mayor Lavigne says on Friday night, the close-knit community celebrated Teen Town Callander that started in 1947. “It is a Teen Town reunion, apropos it is on the same weekend as FunFest.”

Fun continued with the float winners to be announced at 7pm with an O’ Canada cake with the mayor. Open air live music followed with The DeGagne Boys. The festival of lights rolled at 9:30pm with the famed Callander Bay fireworks dazzling crowds at 9:45pm.
