Callander is developing a new municipal plan and council wants to hear from residents. To that effect, the municipality is hosting a public meeting at the Callander Community Centre on 1984 Swale Street, November 17 at 6:00 p.m.
Those who wish to attend must provide proof of vaccination.
There will also be an online version of the meeting, which can be accessed by following the instructions on the town’s website. The meeting agenda will be posted there as well.
Residents are also welcome to submit their thoughts via phone or email beforehand. Taylor Craig is the planning administrator, and he can be reached at 705-358-2780. His email is [email protected].
For those submitting comments to Craig, let it be known he wants to receive them before 4:00 p.m. the day of the meeting.
Why contribute? The municipal plan covers all aspects of the community and helps guide future council decisions regarding issues important to residents.
“The official plan is intended to form the foundation for decision-makers,” the municipality explains, “including council and government agencies.”
The current plan is available on Callander’s website. The 109-page document touches upon everything from cultural heritage to economic development to accessibility issues.
Hunt camps, group homes, transportation and fish habitats are all touched upon in its pages. If it happens in Callander, there is room for it in the municipal plan.
This meeting “allows the public to provide their input as to how we develop the municipality for years to come,” explained Mayor Robb Noon.
“And that’s why the plan is important, not only for council but for the town itself.”
“We want everybody’s input,” he said, “so we develop our municipality in a way that represents what our community wants.”
