The Municipality of Callander is hosting an information session this evening to discuss waterfront development plans

Tonight, the Municipality of Callander is hosting a public information session about its marina plan. It takes place at the South Shore Community Centre at 1865 Highway 654 West from 6 to 8 p.m.

This is the second meeting to discuss the marina. The first was held at the Callander Community Centre on April 24.

About 60 peopled showed up, recalled Callander’s Mayor Robb Noon, and the proposed plan stirred the water with many in attendance. One issue raised was the proposal to locate the marina on Pinecreek Road, a parcel of waterfront land owned by the municipality.

Mayor Noon mentioned the plan “is more of a marina strategy,” than a set-in-stone plan, and referring to it as a plan “really stirred a pot that we didn’t expect to stir.”

“We’re going out to ask for input” about the development to find “what people think of the plan,” particularly having the Pinecreek North location “as a potential site” for a marina and boat launch.

Noon emphasized that there are no definite deadlines for the marina, as it stands, the development plans are in the early stages.

“It was a good meeting, and it was great to hear from everybody” Noon said, as the feedback “will help to move the municipality forward.”
