Callander will be celebrating the 35th edition of its annual FunFest / Canada Day festivities on Saturday, June 30.
A pancake breakfast from 7:30 – 10 a.m. at the Community Centre will kick off the day’s events.
The J.O.Y. Band will be performing in Centennial Park from 10 am – 10:45 and Callander’s FunFest parade will leave the south end of Main St. at 11 and proceed northbound, ending at Centennial Park between 11:30 and noon.
At noon the Rainbow Drummers will perform on stage in the Park, and they will be followed at 12:20 by the opening ceremony which includes the singing of O Canada, cake cutting, awards, and draws. In the Park at various times throughout the day there will be artisan market vendors (noon – 5), food vendors (noon – 10), a reptile show (3:15 – 4:15), inflatable bouncers (noon – 4), face painting and kids’ crafts (1:00 – 3) and Ken the Balloon Dude (2:30 – 4:30).
The Park’s stage will feature the following entertainment: Gibbings Family Band 1:00 – 3:00pm; Reptile Show 3:15 – 4:15pm; Jake & the Fundamentals 4:15 – 6:00pm; amateur hour / open mic 6:15 – 7:15pm; Mid Life Crisis 7:45 – 9:45pm.
Other events around town include:
- buskers;
- free admission to the Callander Museum and Gallery (10:00am – 5:00pm);
- scavenger hunt (Post Office parking lot, register 9:00 – 11:00am, start 12:30pm, $5. fee includes food and beverage);
- 1st annual pie baking contest (drop off entries at Community centre before 8:30 a.m.)
- a clothing swap and
- North Bay Cruisers.
The Chief Commanda will be providing a Callander Bay fireworks cruise departing from and returning to North Bay waterfront, and including a special pick up (9:30pm) and drop off (10:30pm) at Callander`s Municipal Dock. For additional info., ticket prices or reservations call (705) 494-8167.
The day`s festivities will conclude with Callander`s renowned fireworks display at 10 p.m. in Centennial Park.
