It has been a tough year so far for Callander town council.
Back in early January mayor Hec Lavigne suddenly passed away and now new Callander mayor Rob Noon has announced that councillor Maurice Turgeon has passed away.

New Callander mayor Rob Noon, who was appointed new mayor on March 2, says it was an honour to work with Maurice for the past 16 years.
“Members of Council, staff and residents are deeply saddened by the terrible news,” said Mayor Robb Noon in a release.
“Maurice had a great sense of humour and was always there to help anyone in their time of need. I know I join the staff at the Municipality and my colleagues on Council in stating just how much we will miss his energy, and thoughtful input around the Council table. Councillor Turgeon truly made Callander better. He was a champion for our Community. I extend our condolences, thoughts and prayers to Councillor Turgeon’s family and loved ones. He will truly be missed by many.”
Noon adds that funeral arrangements are not available at this time.
