Busy summer for roadwork

The Seymour Street intersection and east end of Cassells Street will be prime spots to avoidthis summer as construction heats up.

On the other side of the city, Highway 11 will also see another project and will include:

  • Pavement rehabilitation of Highway 11 from the Highway 11/17/Algonquin Avenue intersection northerly for 6.9 km and Highway 11 from 13.5 km north of the Highway 11/17/Algonquin Avenue intersection northerly for 10.2km, for a total of 17.1 km of pavement rehabilitation.
  • Drainage improvements including:
    • Storm sewer rehabilitation along Highway 11 (Algonquin Avenue)
    • Centerline and entrance/side road culvert replacements
    • Curb and gutter replacement
  • Replacement of existing illumination with LEDs.
  • Replacement of the Chippewa Creek culvert located on Highway 11, 4.1 km north of the Highway 11/17/Algonquin Avenue intersection.

The paving and storm sewer work on Algonquin Avenue will be completed at night to minimize traffic disruptions.

Construction is scheduled to start this summer and be completed by fall 2020.

Meanwhile, a Highway 94 project is within the Municipality of Callander and includes:

Pavement rehabilitation from Terrace Road northerly for 3.5 km

  • Rehabilitation of the Burford Creek culvert located approximately 150 m north of the Main Street/Mountain Road/Highway 94 intersection
  • Removal of the abandoned CNR Overhead bridge located approximately 500 m north of the Main Street/Mountain Road/Highway 94 intersection
  • Signalization of the Highway 94/Lansdowne Street/Callander Bay Drive intersection.

"Construction is expected to start this summer and be completed later this year," Kristin Franks, Regional Issues and Media Advisor for the Ministry of Transportation told BayToday.
