A total of 12 sewer and water truck crews were out in full force today trying to shovel out many of the fire hydrants in the city.
There are more than 1,600 hydrants in the city and Public Works is responsible for keeping them clear of snow.
Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders told BayToday.ca that the high snow levels this winter have not posed a problem for firefighters in accessing hydrants this winter.
“Obviously they (public works) have got their hands full with a winter like this where they get so much snow to remove,” said Saunders.

Local residents have been asked to try and chip in by trying to keep snow away from their fire hydrant located near their property.
“If you do have a hydrant on your property if you could help us out and try and keep it clear,” noted Saunders.
