A 43-year-old female school bus driver has been charged with fail to yield to a pedestrian in relation to the Tuesday morning accident where a bus ran over a 77-year-old man near the North Bay downtown core.

Police say the female bus driver was making a left turn from Second Avenue West onto Cassells Street when she struck the elderly male pedestrian who was walking westbound on Second Avenue West to his residence at the Empire Live Centre, and crossing the crosswalk on Cassells Street on a green light.

Witnesses told BayToday.ca at the scene that the man was screaming as the bus had him pinned to the ground for a short time.

The pedestrian, who sustained serious injuries, was transported to hospital by ambulance. No update as to his condition.

Neither the school bus driver nor the 18 primary school student passengers were injured.
