Burgers the focus of Crisis Centre fundraiser

'This year funds raised will go towards a kitchen renovation at the Four Elms Emergency Shelter on Cassells Street'

Burgers are becoming the appetizing focus of a unique fundraiser which will be taking place later this week.

The "Burgers for Relief" campaign will run from October 3 to 9 and is a fundraiser for Crisis Centre North Bay.

"Local restaurants who have signed on to support us have created a special burger and will donate a portion of the sales of those burgers to Crisis Centre," explained Susan Rinneard, Executive Director of Crisis Centre North Bay.

Rinneard says this is the first year for the fundraiser but she expects it to become an annual event.

"This year funds raised will go towards a kitchen renovation at the Four Elms Emergency Shelter on Cassells Street," she said.

"As you know homelessness and problems with addictions have seen a spike in our community-the numbers at the shelter have increased quite dramatically over the last few years resulting in increased wear and tear on our kitchen."

She says this project which will help the Crisis Centre continue to serve over 30,000 meals annually.

Posters will be up at all the restaurants taking part. Those who purchase a burger will also have the chance to win some prizes.
