The Hamilton Bulldogs knocked off the OHL’s top team in the OHL finals today winning 5-4 on home ice in Hamilton to win the series 4-2 over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and captured the franchise’s first-ever OHL championship.
North Bay’s Ben Garagan was able to hoist the OHL championship trophy.
The speedy forward was held pointless in 21 playoff games as Hamilton rolled through Ottawa, Niagara, and Kingston each in only five games en route to the championship series.
Callander’s Jake Gravelle, was acquired at the deadline from the Mississauga Steelheads, did not appear in a playoff game but did get go on the ice.
The versatile defenceman/forward got to celebrate and hoist the Robertson Cup along with family and friends.
The Bulldogs also have two more locals who did not play in the playoffs. They include goaltender Zach Roy from Callander and North Bay’s Dylan D’Agostino who got into a pair of regular-season games with the Bulldogs.
North Bay native Beau Moyer is also in the hockey operations department as a GTHL Scout.
The Bulldogs will head to Regina as OHL representatives at the Memorial Cup which begins this Friday.
The last North Bay native to win an OHL title was goaltender Ken Appleby with the Oshawa Generals back in 2015.
