North Bay's second place finisher in Monday's mayoral race admits that she gave away a significant portion of her councillor pay to various charities while in office during her term which started in the fall of 2018.
Johanne Brousseau, who lost by over 700 votes in the North Bay mayoral race to Peter Chirico, says out of her $1700 in council pay, she gave away roiughly 30 per cent of that to good causes across the city.
"I put $500 away for my next election and I gave $500 to the community," she said.
"I don't live above my means so this was just extra disposable income."

Brousseau says she would speak at various charity fundraisers and if she thought it was a great charity she donated to the cause.
"So I was able to give back to the YMCA, to individuals, or organizations such as churches and even OUTLoud North Bay," she said.
While this seemed to be a generous display for the longtime North Bay resident, Brousseau never felt the need to brag about her kindness during her mayoral election campaign.
"I did not think about it before the election but I just did not want to sound like Mother Theresa or something," she said.
"But that is just me. A lot of North Bay people do this but do not want to get recognized."
However, she did share the donations numbers on social media after the election.
"I am happy to report that during my term I have donated to North Bay $20,380 for various causes," she said.
