A sign that doesn’t appear to fall in line with Elections Canada’s rules around signage has popped up at the bottom of the Lakeshore overpass in North Bay this morning.

The anti-Liberal sign, pictured above, says “Ontario is pro-pipeline, build Canadian refineries”.

Elections Canada’s website says the Canada Elections Act does not regulate the content on campaign signs.

However, it says all partisan and election advertising must contain a ‘tagline’ stating who has authorized the message.

According to Elections Canada, if a sign was placed by a third party, it must include the third party’s name, telephone number and a physical or internet address.

None of that information appears on the sign that has been put up in Lee Park.

Nipissing-Timiskaming Liberal incumbent Anthony Rota believes It is an interesting sign because there is no indication who it belongs to who put it out.

"If you are putting up a third party sign that is one of the legalities so when I am looking at it is obviously a cowards way of putting a statement out where they are not taking responsibility for the statement they are making," he told CKAT's Bob Coles.

"We have informed Elections Canada and they are looking to have it removed because it is illegal."

However, Elections Canada told CKAT since you cannot identify if it as a third party, it is now in municipal hands.
