The frustrating winter weather conditions continue to impact transportation to area schools.
With two snow days already this week, today, Stock Transportation cancelled a handful of bus routes this morning despite the fact that the area transportation consortium did not call for a corridor cancellation in North Bay.
According to the online notifications routes 97, 166, 145, 437, 159, 113, 112, 106, 099 were all cancelled this morning leaving some parents scrambled to get their kids to school and early morning temperatures hovered around the -30C.
“Normally the transportation consortium would do a corridor cancellation, the operators do specific groups so I had to cancel specific routes due to the cold but that was not like a blanket decision for the whole city or certain part of the highway due to icing or snow it was just cold related, which routes we could run and the ones we could not,” stated Tim Feick, General Manager at Stock Transportation in North Bay.
It’s the third day already this week that has had some form of school bus cancellations within the city limits.
“This has not been an easy winter to drive kids to school,” said Feick.
“Every driver out there is trying to balance safety with the fact that they have a lot of pride in what they do.
“At the end of the day, taking kids to school is a lot safer than parents driving them to school so we try to do it every time we can and unfortunately today was one of those days where we could not get every bus out there but we try our best,” continued Feick.
