The North Bay Police Service will be handing out coupons — not tickets — to some law-abiding young cyclists in the North Bay area.

"North Bay Police Service officers will be on the lookout for kids wearing their helmets while biking this summer," the North Bay Police Service stated in a social media post.

It is the second year in a row that McDonald's and local cops have teamed up to implement a fun initiative.

"In 2023, members of the North Bay Police Service’s bicycle patrol spearheaded the 'Small Fries for Small Fries' campaign in partnership with McDonald’s restaurants North Bay. McDonald’s provides our members with coupons that can be redeemed for small fries, milkshakes, and ice cream cones," stated David Woolley, corporate communications officer with the North Bay Police Service.

Woolley says the initiative has grown since last year.

Now members of the North Bay Police Service’s uniformed patrol, bicycle patrol, and community engagement units distribute these coupons to children they see practicing bicycle safety like wearing a helmet or walking their bike through a crosswalk.

"They will also provide coupons to children they see making a positive impact in our community," noted Woolley.

"By working together with our community partners we are able to promote bicycle safety and active community membership in a fun and positive way."
