Bay Block Party is back after a smashing success last summer, and this time will include neighbouring Oak St. this Saturday, August 26.
"This year, with the Main Street revitalization project taking place, we will have activities taking place not only on Main Street between Fraser and Ferguson but also on Oak Street near the North Bay Museum," says a news release.
This returning festival is focused on showcasing the best of North Bay’s downtown while encouraging collaboration between community groups in order to offer something for everyone.
“There will be local bands, craft breweries, wineries, distilleries, an artisan’s market, and family-friendly activities, all being offered downtown," explained Ryan Humble, Co-Chair. "The support from local businesses and community groups has been absolutely amazing and it is because of the support of our local community that this single-day all-ages event remains free for families to attend. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome the community downtown for a day of fun.”
This year’s headlining act is Bahamas, the moniker for singer/songwriter/guitar virtuoso Afie Jurvanen. (See video below)
"Afie isn’t from the Bahamas. He’s a Finnish-Canadian Juno Award-winning artist from Barrie. Since 2009, has been making music under the name Bahamas–writing songs about sunsets, love affairs, and making out with crooked smiles. Through simple arrangements, he charts an escape route from the snow belt to the coral reefs," says the release.
Downtown North Bay & Waterfront is again partnering with the North Bay and Area Realtors Association to offer FoodFest. Various food trucks and local restaurants will be onsite with a variety of different options for attendees to experience.
Bay Block Party is presented by the North Bay and Area Realtors Association.
“Our members live, work, and play in this area, They support local businesses, local charities, groups, and organizations, and this event is proudly organized by your local realtors as a way to give back to the community and make it an even better place to live. We’re proud of the efforts of the many volunteers it takes to make this event happen” said Andre Purcell, President of the local association.
“Canada is welcoming Bahamas back with sold-out shows in Niagara-on-the-Lake on both Thursday and Friday before their arrival in North Bay. They have been touring in the United States in preparation for the release of their new album “Bootcut” slated for release in September. We are so excited to welcome Bahamas to the Bay Block Party main stage and to welcome the community downtown to enjoy the show.” noted Kate Ricci, Co-Chair of the Bay Block Party Committee.
The forecast for the day is scattered showers in the morning, then partly sunny in the afternoon with a high of 21.
