Award presented in memory of a NBPS officer

The award was established in 2015 as a tribute to Keating, an alumnus of Nipissing, who graduated from the Criminal Justice program

Each year, at the Nipissing University Lakers Athletic banquet, a varsity athlete is honoured with the Constable Andrew Keating Memorial Award.  Constable Keating was a member of the North Bay Police Service from 2010 to 2014 and died in 2014.

The award was established in 2015 as a tribute to Keating, an alumnus of Nipissing who graduated from the Criminal Justice program. It recognizes a Lakers Men's volleyball student-athlete who best exemplifies the "Success 10" core values both on and off the court.

“Andrew was a regular at the R.J. Surtees Athletic Centre, during his time at Nipissing.” says Lakers Men’s volleyball coach Eric Yung. “His infectious smile was seen at the front desk when he greeted guests, in the weight room where he was training, on the court shooting hoops, and at home games supporting the Lakers. Andrew was a student, fan, and friend to many. He was a leader in the Laker community, and he excelled both in and out of the classroom.”

This year the winner of the award, which Inspector Jeff Warner presented on behalf of the North Bay Police Service, and Detective Constable Steve Carleton, on behalf of the North Bay Police Association, was Griffen Duncalfe, of the Men’s Volleyball team.
