It must be the 2016 Studio Tour Weekend when Artscape signs appear along Almaguin’s highways and back roads. These signs guide visitors to the studios and galleries of fine artists during the Artscape Studio Tour on July 29, 30, and 31st.Artscape Studio Tour 2016 is a free, self-guided tour open to the public that meanders throughout the Almaguin Highlands featuring 15 open studios/galleries and the work of over 100 artists.

Artscape Studio Tour Weekend is a celebration of the visual arts and creative process, offering a unique opportunity for visitors to meet a wide variety of artists and craftspeople in their studios, some of which are only open to the public during this event. Many artists give demonstrations of their craft and share techniques with visitors.

The self-guided Artscape Studio tour features the work of glass artists, jewelers, printmakers, potters, photographers, weavers, painters, sculptors, quilt makers and wood carvers.

The Almaguin Highlands Arts Council publishes a free map booklet with directions to participating sites. The Artscape Studio Tour Guide is available throughout the area at Tourist Information Centers, galleries, restaurants, hotels, resorts and studios. It is also available on the AHAC website www.almaguinhighlandsartscouncil.com or on Facebook.

The Almaguin Highland Arts Council launched the Studio Weekend in 2012 to increase the visibility of artists and craftspeople in Almaguin Highlands and to foster an appreciation for the creative process and the role that artists and craftspeople play in the vitality of our communities.

All participating artists open their creative sanctuaries to the public on Friday July 29th and Saturday July 30th 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday July 31st, from noon to 4:00 pm. The public can explore the studios along three routes or they can wander at will all in one weekend.

Almaguin Highland Arts Council’s chair, Hazel Hornibrook describes the weekend as a …

“Dynamic yet intimate total immersion in art where visitors can talk with the artists, experience their working environments and purchase art, all while enjoying the landscape of the

Almaguin Highlands District driving from one studio to the next!”
