Greater Sudbury and vicinity, Ont. (049100)
West Nipissing - French River, Ont. (049810)
North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa, Ont. (049820)
EC reports that conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
Scattered thunderstorms are forming across portions of the province to the east of Georgian Bay into Eastern Ontario in response to an approaching disturbance. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon into this evening. Brief wind gusts to 90 km/h, 2centimetre hail and heavy downpours are the main concerns with these thunderstorms.
Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
The watch comes just after North Bay Hydro alerted the public that power was restored across the city at 2:30 p.m. due to the storm that rolled through around 11:15 this morning.
