'It can be transferable to what they want to pursue later on and to many other skills they will use in either employment or their own personal goals that they may have'

More than 350 students at Ecole secondaire catholique Algonquin were getting prepared for the job market today.

The students were taking part in the Annual Certification Day event which is in its 12th year at the North Bay secondary school.

“It is very important because it allows students to be exposed to a field of interest or to develop a deeper understanding of that field of interest,” said Julie Landry, Co-op coordinator at Algonquin.

“It can be transferable to what they want to pursue later on and to many other skills they will use in either employment or their own personal goals that they may have.”

The students were able to take in multiple programs including automotive machine shop, cooking, baking, self-defence, First Aid & CPR, along with a boating license to name just a few.

“We just strongly believe in this day, the students answer a questionnaire at the end and they actually do love it, they appreciate that they have this opportunity, to work in that field for a day and it is just a great day,” said Landry.
